Hello, my name is Paul Taylor and, due to many Paul Taylors of note, these days I mostly put out records under the nom de plume New Memphis Colorways!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. Make yourself at home, have a look around! You’ll find pages devoted to all of my releases, and more

I’m opting to drop pretenses such as the ol’  “somebody else wrote it, I swear!” bio; I’d much rather take a more honest and direct approach-

I’m happy to tell you that-

I’m so blessed (non denominationally speaking, of course!) to be a second generation Memphis musician.

I grew up in a house surrounded by instruments and recording gear, and I’ve been playing guitar, drums, bass, keys and writing/recording songs for as long as i can remember. (My dad was helping me 4 track songs I wrote about girls I had crushes on in the first grade!)

I cut my teeth juggling between rhythm and blues, jazz and blues gigs on Beale Street- and more left of center endeavors with my stranger friends in Midtown Memphis TN.

As an able multi instrumentalist with wide ranging tastes, I’ve had the incredible fortune to make music with a wildly diverse list of artists including, but not limited to-

Ann Peebles

Dave Shouse (Grifters/Those Bastard Souls)

Eric Gales

The PRVLG

Robert Ellis

Shelby Bryant(Cloud Wow Music)

Shawn Lane

Jimbo Mathus

Chuck Prophet

Mason Ruffner

Reba Russell

North Mississippi Allstars

and so many more.

Anyways, I’ve been somewhat of a sponge soaking up these diverse influences and experiences, and I think the music and songs that come out of me reflect these diverse experiences.

  • My new release, “It Is What It Isn’t”  is an homage and love letter to Black American Music, without which there would certainly be ZERO American music. Sounds ranging from Parliament, Afrobeat, fusion, funk and blues and a few skewed “jazz” covers all come together in a batch of tunes that were recorded at home in the very isolated Covid summer of 2020….

  • I had just received a Tajon from Brazil, which is like a mini drum set box- and it has turned out to be the drumming voice I’ve been searching for- half electronic/half tight dry Memphis drums! So, with that as a major sonic inspiration and catalyst, I went after these tunes with a fervor, playing guitars, basses, synths (many of which are actually guitars thru synth pedals), omnichord, and percussion. It was a cathartic batch of tunes to make as the world shut down, the funky beats kept my spirits up- and I hope it will lift you into joy as we now see the light at the end of the tunnel.

  • See you out there in the world soon! PT
